Deep Cleaning
Scaling and Root Planing
Remove buildup below the gums to stop gum disease and protect your teeth long term.

Give Your Gums the Care They Deserve
Sometimes, brushing and flossing just aren’t enough to reach deep below the gumline. If your gums are inflamed, bleeding, or pulling away from your teeth, a deep cleaning may be the reset your mouth needs. At Passion Dental, we offer gentle, precise scaling and root planing to clear away harmful buildup, stop gum disease in its tracks, and give your smile the healthy foundation it deserves.
We know that "deep cleaning" can sound intimidating. But with our experienced team and calm, compassionate approach, it’s just another step toward long-term health and confidence.
What Is Deep Cleaning?
Deep cleaning—technically known as scaling and root planing—is a non-surgical dental procedure designed to treat early gum disease (gingivitis) and moderate periodontitis. It goes beyond a regular check-up by cleaning below the gumline where bacteria, plaque, and tartar can hide and cause lasting damage.
- Dr. Mahum Sarfraz
Scaling removes the hardened tartar (calculus) from below the gumline, while root planing smooths the surfaces of your tooth roots, making it harder for bacteria to reattach and helping the gums reattach to the tooth.
This treatment not only helps stop gum disease but also helps prevent tooth loss, bad breath, and bone loss.
Do I Need a Deep Cleaning?
You may benefit from scaling and root planing if you:

- Have red, swollen, or bleeding gums
- Notice gum recession or teeth looking "longer"
- Experience persistent bad breath
- Have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease
- Haven't had a dental cleaning in a long time
Our team will evaluate your gums and use gentle probing and imaging to determine the best path forward.
How Deep Cleaning Works
Step 1: Gum Health Assessment
We begin with a thorough gum examination and digital X-rays (if needed) to measure pocket depths around each tooth and assess the extent of buildup.

Step 2: Gentle Numbing
To ensure your comfort, we use a local anesthetic to gently numb the treatment area.
Step 3: Scaling
Using ultrasonic and hand instruments, we carefully remove tartar and plaque from beneath the gumline.
Step 4: Root Planing
- The Passion Dental Team
We smooth the root surfaces to discourage bacteria from reattaching and to support gum healing.
Step 5: Healing & Home Care
Your gums may feel tender for a few days, but we provide complete aftercare guidance and support. Healing typically begins within a week, and follow-up visits ensure everything is on track.
